NEW VESTRY MEMBER STATEMENTS
JAY WEBSTER – I have been a lifelong Episcopalian. In boarding school I was active in the choir and served as an acolyte for three years at the school’s chapel. At Princeton University I was a chapel deacon as an undergraduate and active in the chapel programs. When I moved to Aspen in 1986 , I became a parishioner at Christ Church with Father Babb. I have been a loyal member of Christ Church since then despite having moved to Carbondale in late 2017. I have served on the Vestry previously under Father McNab, and have been an usher at the 10 o’clock services.
One of my aims on the Vestry would be to serve as a liaison to the recovery community and towards mental health in general. I support Christ Church financially as well as participating in other activities such as Holiday Baskets. I spend approximately four months of the year in Hawaii but I am always available by Zoom for meetings.
DIANA RUMSEY – I was born in New York City, raised in Denver, moved to Snowmass Village as a “pioneer” in 1967. Being a cradle Episcopalian, I have supported Christ Church Aspen for over 52 years and served on its Vestry two terms. I feel committed to the lay ministries as well as a need to reintroduce some of our past programs. Following a few difficult years, I look forward to contributing to the challenges ahead in our church history and building a strong membership and vital youth ministry.
TRACY MURTAGH – I have attended Christ Church for 34 years and have been an official “member” for almost twenty. I served on the vestry from 2003-2005, a previous tumultuous period for our church where CEC was led by 3 different priests over three years. During that similar time, we as a church were required to search our collective souls to define our beliefs, and values to determine our future path. Christ Church is again at a critical juncture, but I am confident that under the experienced guidance of our new, short-term rector, she is poised to reclaim her position of strength. With my previous experience I feel well equipped and am eager to contribute to the team that leads her back.
In addition to having served on the vestry, I have taught Sunday School, hosted coffee hours, and participated on a prior search committee. I am currently a periodic lay reader and greeter, and also participate in the mason jar ministry and holiday basket program. During ski season I work full time as an assistant manager at Aspen Sports at the St. Regis.
