Christ Episcopal Church New Rector
The Reverend Dr. William Lupfer
We are very pleased that The Reverend William Lupfer will be joining CEC as our full-time priest in September.
Bill was raised in Chicago and attended college at the University of Colorado, Boulder. During his time at CU, he visited Aspen and fell in love with our town. Following college, he entered the Criminal Justice profession providing prison ministry. After 5 years, he answered the call to the priesthood, receiving a Master of Divinity at Yale Divinity School and a Doctor of Divinity at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary.
Bill began his ministry as an Associate Rector at Church of the Holy Comforter, Kenilworth, Illinois. After 5 years there, he took the Rector position at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Plymouth, Michigan. Following that ministry, he answered the call to be the Dean of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, Oregon. Bill spent 11 years in Portland before moving to Trinity Wall Street, New York City where he was the Rector for 6 years. He will be joining us after serving as the Interim Rector for the past year at All Saints Episcopal Church in Phoenix, Arizona.
In addition to contemplative practice and liturgical worship, Bill sees God in the natural world. He loves to spend time in the wild – canoeing, hiking, bicycle touring, Nordic and downhill skiing, mountaineering, rock climbing, sky diving and whitewater rafting. He credits his primary spiritual conversion with a solo experience in the wilderness.
Bill will join us with his wife, Kimiko to whom he has been married for 30 years. Bill says that Kimiko is his spiritual partner in life. Together they have 2 grown children, Sarah (24) who lives in New York City and Kyle (21) who is a college student in San Francisco. Bill expects both children to visit often as they love to ski.
